Generate XML Instance from XSD with Multiple Roots

Wow, out working on a client site today and I had forgotten how to do this.  Logging here for future reference.  The BizTalk Visual Studio add-ins are a bit clunky.

From within a BizTalk Visual Studio project if you right mouse on an xsd file in solution explorer you will see the “Generate Instance” menu item.  If your schema has more than one schema type then the generated instance will be generated for the first type.  No prompting to select root type.

You need to open you xsd, select the top “<Schema>” node and set the “Root Reference” properties in the properties window.  Now right mouse on the xsd from solution explorer and select “Generate Instance”.  Reset the “Root Reference” property once your done.  Like I said, clunky…
