Today I had to build a virtual BizTalk Server 2009 environment. Easy enough, I started by using the latest version of vm player installing windows server 2008. After selecting the windows server iso I failed to notice the vm player “create a new virtual machine” wizard go into “Easy Install” mode. If its a defect or not I don’t know but on both Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 both defaulted to a “Data Center” install.
To get around this I told the “create a new virtual machine” wizard to not install the OS and then attached to iso in virtual machine settings so I could bypass the “Easy Install”. This allowed me to select the version of Windows Server I wanted which happened to be Enterprise edition in this case.
